Gmail over SMTP
Updated 2026-10-15
Connecting Gmail is the easiest way. If you prefer not to, Gmail also accepts SMTP with an app password. Google does not accept your normal Google password from other programs.
Before you start
App passwords need 2-Step Verification on your Google Account. Google says the option may be missing when:
- 2-Step Verification is set up only for security keys,
- you use a work, school or other organisation account (ask your administrator for the right SMTP settings), or
- the account has Advanced Protection.
Create an app password
- Open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords and sign in if asked.
- Create an app password, for example named "Bilketa".
- Google shows the app password. Copy it into Bilketa's password field.
Settings
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Server | smtp.gmail.com |
| Port | 587 |
| Security | STARTTLS |
| Username | Your full Gmail address |
| Password | The app password (not your Google password) |
| From address | Your Gmail address |
Google also lists port 465 with SSL/TLS for Google Workspace.
